Common Roadblocks

Failure to plan.
Many students are rejected for admission or lose financial aid because they fail to meet deadlines. Transfer is important - so take the time to plan for it.

Choosing the "wrong" courses.
Many transfer colleges require specific courses. Students often take a Math, English, or majors course, only to discover it is the "wrong" course at the transfer institution. Students should work with their academic advisors to select courses that will meet transfer requirements at their chosen transfer institution.

Changing majors.
Students who change majors often need to take additional courses. Students who change upon transfer, may find credits do not count toward their chosen degree. Not because they don't transfer, but because they don't fit. Recognize that changing a major may increase the number of credits needed to complete a degree.

Failure to decide.
You may not know where you want to transfer, but if you don't explore your options, you may not have any. Choose at least 2 or 3 possibilities.
